Make Skagway Great Again: Yukon NDP Official Opposition

The Yukon NDP Official Opposition has announced that it plans to take immediate steps, if elected, to place Skagway, Alaska under control of the Government of Yukon.

“In the days of the Klondike gold rush, the United States claimed that Dawson City should be part of Alaska. But now the shoe is on the other foot, and it’s not like Alaska is using it anyway,” said Yukon NDP leader Liz Hanson.

On any given summer day, Skagwegians are often outnumbered at least two-to-one by Yukoners on a day trip with their parents, who are visiting from Ontario for the week. And Hanson noted that despite the closure of the Sarah Palin store, Skagway offers certain amenities that just aren’t available in Whitehorse.

“Yukoners need the certainty of knowing that Starfire’s first-rate Thai food will be there when we come calling,” added Hanson. “Some jurisdictions have a laser focus on oil and gas; in Yukon, we love our Pad Thai.”

“That’s why today, I pledge to you that we will Make Skagway Great Again.”

As of press time, the NDP has made no indication of its designs on Atlin, B.C.
