Yukon NDP leader Liz Hanson attends Association of Yukon Communities general meeting

Yukon NDP leader Liz Hanson was at the Association of Yukon Communities' 40th general meeting in Haines Junction this weekend to listen to and participate in discussions with municipal leadership on pressing municipal issues like waste diversion and affordable housing.

"I can't overstate the importance of the work that you do as the elected members of local governments to ensure that our communities thrive," Hanson told the meeting during her remarks on Friday morning. "Municipal governments, local area councils and advisory bodies have their ears to the ground and know better than anyone else what their community is saying."

The weekend's recurring themes focused on the need for improved communication with the Yukon government on projects requiring intergovernmental collaboration -- a theme that Hanson has repeatedly championed in the Yukon legislature.

"Yukon's community leaders are asking for a stronger relationship with the government founded on clear and respectful communication," added Hanson. "I deeply appreciate the chances I had to listen and learn about municipal priorities like waste diversion that need immediate attention."
